About CERP

The Centre for Education Research and Practice (CERP) brings together expertise in education and assessment, with a particular focus on research on high-stakes qualifications such as GCSEs and A-levels.

We have a proven record of high-calibre research in this field, stretching back forty years through our predecessor organisations. Our research is regularly published in scholarly journals and academic books, and our researchers are frequent faces at national and international conferences and seminars.

We investigate issues grounded in the practical realities of education, assessment and qualifications, maintaining the highest standards of academic rigour. Our team of researchers bring a range of skills to CERP, from statisticians and psychologists, to educationalists and scientists. These varied backgrounds allow us to use a range of quantitative and qualitative approaches to ensure the most appropriate methods are used to generate valid research conclusions and recommendations.

All of our work undergoes an exacting peer review process through a prestigious advisory group of national and international researchers, who also provide guidance and advice on the activities and projects we undertake.

Through our research activities we provide robust evidence that we hope will be used by fellow researchers in the education sector, policy-makers, practitioners and the wider education community. Through this website you can browse our research library read our policy-related materials, explore some of the themes that run through our research, read opinion pieces from thought leaders in the education and research community, and find information about our researchers. You can also contact us if you’d like to know more about our work or would like to propose a research collaboration.

Legally, CERP is part of AQA, the leading provider of GCSEs and A-levels, but retains its own identity and research freedoms. The data we produce inform AQA’s activities and ensure decisions regarding policy and practice are grounded in a reliable evidence base.

You can read more about our main areas of research and current partnerships in this leaflet [PDF].
